Scientist – Biocatalysis

Responsibilities

  • Chemical Route Design & Optimization: Design, implement and optimize synthetic routes
  • Optimize Biocatalytic Processes: Develop and refine biocatalytic methods ensuring efficiency and scalability. Conduct experiments, including enzyme characterization, optimization of reaction conditions, and testing enzyme activity under various stress conditions
  • Collaborative teamwork: Work with cross-functional teams, including biologists and enzyme engineering teams
  • Additional Chemistry Projects: Contribute to various chemistry-related projects and tasks as required, supporting the broader goals of the team and company.
  • Analytical chemistry: develop and optimize analytical methods for product formation (HPLC, GC-FID, LC/GC-MS), Troubleshoot new methods and interpret results.
  • Data collection and analysis: Accurately record experimental procedures, observations, and results. Organize and analyze data using appropriate statistical methods and software..
  • Documentation: Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations to communicate research findings and progress. Contribute to scientific documents and patent applications.
  • Flexibility: As an early hire at a startup, be adaptable and willing to take on various responsibilities beyond core expertise.

Qualification

  • PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Biocatalysis or related field
  • Experience in analytical chemistry
  • Proven experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing enzyme assays to investigate enzyme kinetics, stability, and activity.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data using statistical methods and software tools.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interpret and share results in a clear and concise way.
  • Proactive and independent approach to troubleshooting experimental issues and proposing innovative solutions.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Experience with scale-up processes, preferably up to at least 100 grams is a plus
  • Relevant industry experience is a plus
